About This Session:

While many newspapers have announced reduced print frequency or other cutbacks, expansions are being implemented in cities like Greenville and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Denver, Colorado. What’s making these market expansions possible and what’s the future for these operations?






Pamela J. (PJ) Browning is president of the newspaper division of Evening Post Publishing in Charleston, S.C., and president and publisher of The Post and Courier. Previously, she was publisher of the Sun News in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She has served as publisher at the Centre Daily Times in State College, Penn., The Sentinel in Carlisle, Penn., and The Telegraph in Macon, Ga.

Chris Reen is publisher of The Colorado Springs Gazette and president of Gazette Media, including Digital Clarity Solutions – a full service digital advertising agency. He also is publisher of The Denver Gazette and chairman of Colorado Politics, a political news journal based in Denver, covering public policy and the state legislature. Prior to joining the Gazette, he was president and publisher of The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City. He has also held media executive positions in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida.

This session will be moderated by:

Leonard Woolsey, publisher of The Daily News in Galveston, Texas. He is also president of Southern Newspapers, Inc., which operates newspapers in Texas and Oklahoma. Woolsey is a member of America’s Newspapers board of directors as well as the Texas Press Association.
