Mike Reed, CEO of the new Gannett, which was formed from the merger of Gannett and GateHouse Media, will talk about his vision for the future of the newspaper industry, as well as the synergies Gannett has gained since the merger. Reed also will discuss Gannett's plans for achieving parity with their communities — in terms of gender, racial and ethnic diversity — by 2025.
Gannett's newsrooms each recently shared data regarding the diversity of their newsrooms and announced the creation of 60 jobs to expand coverage of inequities in the country.
Mike Reed is chairman and chief executive officer of Gannett Co., Inc., which was previously known as New Media Investment Group Inc., until its acquisition of Gannett in November 2019. He had served as chief executive officer of New Media since Nov. 26, 2013, and its predecessor company, GateHouse Media, Inc. since January 2006. He was formerly the president and chief executive officer of Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., a leading publisher of local news and information, and had served in that capacity since 1999. Reed served as CNHI’s chief financial officer from 1997 to 1999. Prior to that, he worked for Park Communications, Inc., a multimedia company, located in Ithaca, New York. Reed formerly served on the board of directors for the Newspaper Association of America, including one year as chairman. He formerly served on the board of directors for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, from 2009 to 2014. Reed also formerly served as a director of the Associated Press and chairman of the Audit Committee for the Associated Press. Reed was also a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences and was a member of the Grady College Journalism School’s Board of Advisors.
